Megan and Joey were the kind of couple who made my job easy. Laid-back, present, not performing for the camera. When a couple is that relaxed, I can stay out of the way and just watch what happens. If you want to see more work from around the area, take a look at my portfolio as a Richmond wedding photographer.
I photograph weddings and elopements across Virginia and beyond. Venues like Mankin Mansion are why Richmond couples have options that rival any destination market.
What to know before you book
- All-inclusive packages run roughly $12,000-$25,000 and cover coordination, catering, and decor. Your photographer is one of the few outside vendors you bring in yourself.
- The property has multiple locations to work with — English gardens, brick pathways, the Grand Pavilion tent, and a shaded lawn. You won’t be stuck in one spot all day.
- The planning team is genuinely on top of the timeline. That is not something you can take for granted at every venue, and it makes a real difference in the photos.
- The sparkler exit is a signature moment here. The staff coordinated it while Megan and Joey had their private last dance.

Getting ready in the bridal suite
The bridal suite has a large full-length mirror and great lighting. I got some of my favorite frames of the day in there. Quiet, unhurried, before everything else started moving. It is the kind of detail that is easy to rush past but worth slowing down for.
Getting ready photos live or die by the light and the space. This room has both.

Mankin Mansion outdoor ceremony and garden photos
The first look happened on the lawn just outside the ceremony space before guests arrived. Quiet, just the two of them, manicured hedges and brick pathways in the background.
Vows followed in the English garden on a brick aisle lined with white chairs. The tree canopy kept the light soft. Clean backdrop, guests packed in, exactly what you want for ceremony photos.

Cocktail hour and reception
After the ceremony, guests moved to the open-air pergola bar on the lawn. That transition gave me time to move around freely and catch candid moments without being in anyone’s way. The Grand Pavilion tent took over for dinner and dancing. String lights overhead, real doors, temperature controlled. It does not feel like a tent once you are inside it.
The staff kept everything moving. I am used to having to track down the coordinator to find out what is happening next. Here they came to me. That freed me up to stay focused on the couple instead of managing logistics.

The sparkler exit
Megan and Joey had a private last dance while the staff set up the exit outside. By the time the doors opened, everything was ready. I just had to be in position. That almost never happens. Usually the photographer is the one coordinating the whole thing while trying to also shoot it.
Having that handled meant I could focus entirely on the frame. It closed the night the right way.
